The excellent debut EP by As Lions, “Aftermath”, is due to be released tomorrow, along with a premiere of the video for the title track! I was lucky enough to be in attendance at the launch gig last night at Alleycat in London.
I’d seen the band play Camden Rocks Festival in June, and they were amazing, so I was looking forward to seeing them play again.
Alleycat is quite a small venue and the room was full of eager fans waiting to hear the new music. There was some delay due to technical and sound issues, so although the gig was supposed to start at about 6 p.m. it was nearer to 7 p.m. when As Lions took to the stage. I soon forgot about the time spent waiting when the band launched into their first song “The Fall”. There were some sound problems with the microphone during the first song, but Austin Dickinson (singer) took that in his stride and put on a great performance. The sound problem was fixed after that and all went smoothly.
The band played all the songs from the new EP. I was familiar with “The Fall”, “White Flags”, and “The Aftermath”. (The Fall and Aftermath have been featured here at Real Rock and Roll as tracks of the day!). The other new songs sounded great. I’ll definitely be grabbing a copy of the EP as soon as it’s released! The music As Lions are producing will appeal to rock and metal fans. This is a band who seem very passionate about the music and they have a very engaging stage presence.
The songs really come to life in a live setting. There was lots of headbanging and dancing going on in the crowd. It was a real treat to see the band in such an intimate setting as they’ll soon be jetting off to America to support Five Finger Death Punch Shinedown, and Sixx:A.M., on their US tour. They are bound to pick up lots of new fans there, and I’m sure it won’t be long before As Lions are headlining their own tour.
