Track of the Day – BASS DRUM OF DEATH – Too Cold to Hold

I’m a big fan of Bass Drum of Death. Firstly, I mean, what is there not to like about the band’s name? Probably the best band name in a generation. But secondly, they’re a solid, reliable rock band. John Barrett just keeps on doing his thing, ploughing his own furrow, and putting out music that is always of a very high quality.

They started life as a very rough around the edges, low fi recorded garage band. They’ve evolved a bit since then – the production quality of their records certainly has. But they still have that raw, gritty edge to them. This song, for some reason, reminds me of ZZ Top in that it has a certain underlying swagger to it. But ZZ Top reimagined for the post grunge generation. It’s still recognizably BDOD though. If you like the band, as I do, then I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

Their last record, Just Business, was a great album. I’m assuming this single is a precursor to it’s follow up. So keep an eye out for that, I certainly will be.
