Ok, so it’s time for a bit of noisy, nihilistic post-punk from the industrial North. Document are from Manchester and were building up a bit of a following before the pandemic hit. ‘American Heat’ is from their debut EP A Camera Wanders All Night which was released on Bandcamp back in March. (You can check it out and buy it for a very reasonable price here).
Yeah, this is loud and grinding and discordant. It sits in the same sonic universe as IDLES and Shame so it has that bleak but irresistible swagger that we all love. Brilliant deadpan vocals over the top delivering some gritty home truths. I like it. I like it a lot.
That’s a brilliant title for the EP as well – I should have mentioned that. Great artwork. I mean, I don’t know what to else to say really, except go and check out the rest of the record and keep an eye out for them when the live gigs start back up. I can imagine they’d be brilliant live. In a cathartic and slightly self destructive kind of way, as all the best live shows are.
