I have a real soft spot for Ezra Furman. From her brilliant trans odyssey record from 2018 (which I reviewed at the time) through punk cover version EPs and now a soundtrack, she is not afraid to mix it up and challenge the conventions of rock and alt-rock music itself.
This is a bit more stripped back than usual I guess. It’s more classic sounding, acoustically driven. But as soon as that voice kicks in you know you’re in for a treat. I love it. I’m currently in the process of listening to the full record and will try and give a verdict on that when I’m happy I’m in a place to do so (at the moment, it seems pretty damn great, but I need a few more listens yet). In the meantime, just enjoy this one. Or go and check the album out yourself.
