Florence Black’s gig at the O2 Islington last night was the final date in their first headline tour. This band has been a favourite of mine for a few years now and they are definitely one of the best live bands I’ve seen.
Before I get to the main review, I should mention the support band Feral Sun. There were two support bands but, unfortunately, I missed the first band.
I did manage to catch three or four songs by Feral Sun. I’d done a bit of research on them by listening to a couple of their songs on YouTube, just before leaving for the gig. I liked the sound of “Breathe” and was lucky enough to catch that live. It’s one of those epic-sounding, classic rock influenced ballads. It sounds good on Youtube and was even better live.
Their other songs sounded good and had some nice guitar parts. They come across as quite a mellow rock band, inspired by old school rock music. Feral Sun seemed comfortable on the stage and were a good warm-up band for the headliners.
You can find out more about them on their website: http://www.feralsun.com/
If you love rock music and are ever looking for a great night out, you should head for a Florence Black gig. These guys know all about how to put on an amazing show. They breeze through their set at lightning speed, and without any encouragement the crowd will get involved; dancing, singing, and headbanging—because the music deserves it!
It’s all about the music with this band. Impeccable delivery of the songs at every gig, and you can tell that the band enjoy what they do, which is probably why the crowd end up getting carried away on that awesome energy.
I always enjoy Florence Black gigs, and last night’s was fantastic. The band played for over an hour, and treated fans to most of the songs from their excellent EPs. Florence Black have produced some of the best new music over the past few years. If you haven’t checked out their songs, you can currently get a limited edition CD with all three of the band’s EPs on one disc: https://florenceblackstore.bigcartel.com/product/florence-black-ep-compilation
I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes rock music.
As well as their two latest releases “One Way Out”, and “Pierrepoint”, they played: “Fiesta”, “Burn”, “Ghost”, “Same Again”, “The One”, “Down”, “Smoke”, “Johnny Lennon”, “Draggy Boot”, “Gunshot”, “The Ride”, and “Smoke”, (not necessarily in that order), and they finished with “Breadfan”.
I managed to film some of their awesome rendition of “Breadfan” with my iPhone:
Make sure you catch Florence Black on their next tour!
