The second track from a Liverpool band in a row this week. What can I say about this one? Maybe quote the band who claim to be “setting politically charged, socially commentary against creeping psychobilly”. Er, yeah, ok, I get that. I think.
Well look, it’s a bit different. Which is precisely why it’s so great. The driving bassline reminds me, for some reason, of Ian Dury style ska punk, but the guitar has more than a passing element of early Red Hot Chili Peppers to it, back in the Hillel Slovak days perhaps. And at the same time it kind of reminds me of Viagra Boys (specifically their track ‘Sports’) and also a bit of Talking Heads. Yeah, I know, there’s a lot going on in my brain there. But that’s the thing when you come across something that’s a bit unique – you end up scratching around for reference points.
Give this a listen though. Put your prejudices aside and properly listen to it. It’s catchy as hell. And I’m willing to bet you’ll probably end up liking it as much as I do. Great video too.
