Track of the Day – STRANGEPRIDE – Tumbledown

Ok, let’s end the week with some REM-esque indie rock. Strangepride are a Brooklyn three piece who formed from the ashes of previous band Chumped. Two of the band’s members also play in the band Katie Ellen which, I guess, makes one or the other, or both, technically side projects. Is that even a thing these days? Who knows. They’re all bands, they all make music. And this one makes pretty great music.

‘Tumbledown’ is from their debut record We’ll Take it from Here which came out in September. It’s a pretty expansive album with elements of alt-rock, indie, new wave, Americana. Most of my favourite things in other words. As I said, this one reminds me most of REM, maybe The Shins, a touch of West Coast sunshine with an undertone of middle America pensiveness. The perfect soundtrack for sitting in a field in Autumn watching a flock of birds take off into the grey afternoon.
