I’m always banging on here about the Scottish music scene. But the Northern Irish one can’t be ignored either. I’m increasingly coming across some majorly impressive bands from that corner of the world, of which Sister Ghost are just the latest in a rapidly growing long line.
The musical vehicle of singer Shannon O’Neill, the band list influences as diverse as Sonic Youth, Fugazi, The Smiths and Kate Bush. For me, ‘Backwards’ sits somewhere slap bang in the middle between Hole and L7. I love it. There’s a real solid sound grinding its way through this. It’s grungy, it’s edgy, and it’s all things alternative bundled up in a nice tight package. Add these guys to your list, you won’t regret it.
