Five favourite releases from January 2018

I thought 2017 was an amazing year for new music, but it seems 2018 is going to be even better! January was an awesome month for new album/EP releases. I thought I would share some of my faves…

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Wrong Creatures

“Wrong Creatures” has so many fantastic tracks on it. My current favourite is “Spook”, but I just love the dark, cool, laid-back vibe of the whole album.

Dream Wife – Dream Wife

“Dream Wife” is brilliant. Eleven amazing tracks. I love the fun, punky sound. My favourite tracks at the moment are “Somebody”, “Hey Heartbreaker”, and “F.U.U.”, but the whole album is great; you can listen to from start to finish without having to skip over tracks, no fillers. The songs are essentially fun and uplifting but also include lots of insightful social commentary in the lyrics. A gem of an album.

Walking Papers – WP2

I heard about Walking Papers when they released their debut a few years ago and really enjoyed the songs I heard from that album. “WP2” is really good. There are some stand out tracks, such as “My Luck Pushed Back”, “Death On The Lips”, and “Red and White”, but this is an album full of bluesy, grungy, classic-sounding tracks. The sound reminds me a bit of Rival Sons in their Great Western Valkyrie era. The vocals on “WP2” are exquisite, a really smooth sound that enhances the album.

King Buffalo – Repeater

If you like psychedelic rock, shoegaze, doom, blues, or just amazingly creative music, you’ll find it all on King Buffalo’s latest release, “Repeater”. The title track is over thirteen minutes in length, but is so good it could have been longer. I really like the sound of this EP and will be checking out some more of this band’s music.
