Track of the Day: My Immortal – Empyre

“My Immortal”, by Evanescence, is one of those classic songs that remains one of my favourites, and I’m sure many rock fans feel the same. Empyre didn’t choose an easy song to cover because the original is awesome; it’s also a song that has been covered quite a few times over the years.

I think Empyre have done an amazing job with this cover version; it has a haunting quality and Henrik Steenholdt’s voice suits the song perfectly. Empyre have a song on their EP “Something Remains” called “Only Way Out”; this version of “My Immortal” made me think of that song because the way it is sung is quite similar, with a depth of emotion that really makes you believe that the lyrics are heartfelt.

Empyre have released “My Immortal” today along with a great video. It was an obvious choice for me for my track of the day. It’s a song that complements Empyre’s previous releases well.

I’m a big fan of this band and can honestly say that I love all of their songs. If you’re a rock fan you really should have their 2 EPs in your collection. Also, check out/subscribe to their Youtube channel, there are some great videos there that are well worth checking out.

You can also stream Empyre’s songs and add them to your playlists on Spotify.

The band have many gigs planned in the next few months. They’ve come a long way in the past year and are now starting to get the recognition they deserve from the music press. Try to catch them live if you can; their shows are always fantastic.

Tonight they’re supporting Guns 2 Roses (Guns N’ Roses tribute band) and Metallica Reloaded at O2 Academy Oxford (stage time 7.30 p.m.). Tomorrow, they’ll be supporting Massive Wagons at their sold out show at Lancaster Library.
