Review – Amplified Festival 2017: 21st – 23rd July 2017 (Part 2)

Read Part 1 here:

The great thing about music festivals is that you always find some great new bands that you’ve never heard of. I found a few of those at the Amplified Festival. The first was on Saturday evening. I only caught the end of their set after seeing Massive Wagons, but I really enjoyed what I did see of One Machine.

One Machine

When their show finished, I wished I’d watched the whole thing as it was brilliant!

I’ve since looked up the band online and found out that One Machine is a metal band that was formed by Steve Smyth (ex-Testament guitarist). For the Amplified show, they had a guest singer, Nicklas Sonne.

They have quite a classic metal sound and it was a fantastic performance. I’ll definitely be following this band and checking out more of their music.

Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons

I’ve been a Motörhead fan for many years; I first saw them back in 1995 at Brixton Academy, and caught them live a few more times over the years, so it was great to be able to watch guitarist Phil Campbell’s band at the Amplified Festival. Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons is a group made up of Phil and his three sons, Todd (guitar), Dane (drums), Tyla (bass) and complemented by vocalist Neil Starr.

I’d never heard any of their music before but was absolutely blown away by the show. All the songs were awesome. The band also played a few Motörhead classics including two of my favourites, “Ace of Spades” and “Killed By Death”. The singer is amazing. He is the perfect rock frontman and he gave it his all throughout the show. This band have found a formula for creating great rock and roll. The audience were hooked from the start and there was a lot of headbanging and dancing/singing going on.

Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons were were headlining Amplified on the Saturday; they were in the tent, which had a very small stage, but that didn’t stop them. This was a high energy and full throttle performance by an immensely talented band of musicians.

It was the perfect way to end a day of music at the festival. Everyone left on a high. This really is a must-see band. They have a few festival dates in Europe coming up. Keep an eye on their website/social media, and try to catch them if they play near you!
