The stage times have been revealed for next week’s Camden Rocks Festival. Next Saturday (3rd of June), 25 venues in Camden will host 250 bands. Take a look at the listings!
There will also be a leaflet with stage times and venue details handed out with wristbands on the day of the festival.
I’m very excited about this year’s line-up as it includes so many bands that we’ve featured here on the Rock and Roll blog 🙂
I’ve been going through the stage times and making a note of bands I want to see. Unfortunately there are a few clashes, with bands playing at the same time at different venues. It will be hard to choose which ones to watch and which to miss 😦
Here’s my pick of the bands that you should try to catch live at next week’s festival. There are many bands I haven’t heard of, so if I’ve missed out one of your favourites, let me know in the comments below 🙂 I like discovering awesome new bands whenever possible.
Bands to watch:
12.30 p.m. Tokyo Taboo – The Monarch
Their debut album, “6th Street Psychosis”, is out now on Vinyl, CD, Cassette, download & stream: http://smarturl.it/6SP?IQid=youtube
1 p.m. – DIV/DES – The Black Heart
The first dilemma, for me, comes at 2 p.m. when Screaming Eagles play Proud Camden, and Bad Touch play KOKO. I’ve seen both bands live before and they’re both great. I may have to toss a coin 🙂
2 p.m. Screaming Eagles – Proud Camden
2 p.m. Bad Touch – KOKO
Bad Touch are currently on tour across the UK with King King, and they’ll be on tour again later in the year supporting The Kentucky Headhunters. Their latest album is “Truth Be Told”. You can check out their music on Spotify, and buy on iTunes or from their website.
2.30 p.m. Willow Robinson – The Hawley Arms
At 3 p.m. there are more clashes; three of the bands I wanted to see, Broken Witt Rebels, Zodiac Mindwarp & The Love Reaction, and Massive Wagons, are playing at the same time in different venues.
3 p.m. Broken Witt Rebels – Dr Martens Store “Boot Room”.
The band’s latest EP is the excellent “Georgia Pine”. Check out their music at the following links:
3 p.m. Zodiac Mindwarp & The Love Reaction – The Underworld
3 p.m. Massive Wagons – Be At One
3.30 p.m. Jasmine Rodgers – Kraken Sounds Stage – Camden Market
At 4 p.m. there is another dilemma with Stone Broken and Aaron Buchanan & The Cult Classics both playing at different venues. I’m more familiar with Stone Broken’s music but have heard great things about Aaron Buchanan’s band.
4 p.m. Stone Broken – Proud Camden.
4 p.m. Aaron Buchanan & The Cult Classics – Be At One
You can check out the lyric videos for tracks from the debut album, “The Man With Stars On His Knees”, on Youtube.
Buy/stream the album:
5 p.m. Lupus-Dei – The Dublin Castle
I saw this band in March when they played Proud Camden. They are brilliant live.
5.30 p.m. Ally Dickaty (of The Virginmarys) – acoustic – Kraken Sounds Stage – Camden Market.
I saw Ally Dickaty’s solo performance at The Union Chapel last year. If you get the chance to watch his acoustic show, I’d highly recommend it.
6 p.m. – Slydigs – Be At One.
I’m looking forward to this as they have some great music; their new EP, “How Animal Are You?”, is amazing.
6.45 p.m. – Reverend & The Makers – KOKO
Neil Schiller reviewed their recent gig at Wirral Live. I’m looking forward to this one as I’ve always loved their song “Heavyweight Champion of the World”.
7.15 p.m. – Andy Cairns (of Therapy?) – Proud Camden
Therapy? have some awesome songs and Andy Cairns is a great entertainer, so this would be a good one to see.
8 p.m. Thunder on the Left – Belushi’s
The worst clash of bands is at 9 p.m. 😦
There are five great bands playing at the same time: The Virginmarys, The Damned, Jasmine Rodgers, Broken Witt Rebel, and Dirty Thrills.
9 p.m. The Virginmarys – The Underworld.
The Virginmarys’ live shows are always full of energy. We’ve featured them on Rock and Roll many times. They’re one of my favourite bands at the moment. Check out their music on Spotify and iTunes. They have plans to release more new music this year.
9 p.m. The Damned – Electric Ballroom
This iconic band will be one that many people will be wanting to see.
9 p.m Jasmine Rodgers will be playing The Monarch
There is also a chance to see her play earlier in the day at Camden Market (see above).
9 p.m. – Broken Witt Rebels – The Lyttleton Arms
They will also be playing an earlier show during the day (see above).
9 p.m. – Dirty Thrills – Be At One
Dirty Thrills are another of my favourite bands; their shows are always great. If you haven’t seen them live, I’d highly recommend you try to catch them. They’ve just signed a recording contract with Frontiers Music, so it won’t be long before you’ll be hearing much more about them 🙂 Watch out for a new album coming this year. Check out their music on Spotify and iTunes.
10 p.m. – Sisteray – The Good Mixer
I saw Sisteray live in April and was very impressed by their performance. This is definitely a band to watch.
11 p.m. Black Sixteen – Belushi’s
If you have any energy left by 11 p.m., it would be well worth seeing Black Sixteen. I saw them in March at Proud Camden and really enjoyed their gig even though I’d never heard of them before that. They have some great songs. You can listen to them on Spotify, buy on Bandcamp.
I’ll stop there, although I’ve probably missed a few worthy mentions.
If you’re going to the festival, have fun. Be prepared for queues outside the venues. If there are bands you particularly don’t want to miss, try to get to the venue early.
There’s also an afterparty if you’re a night owl 🙂
