Gig review: Florence Black – Proud Camden 11th February 2017

Florence Black played at Proud Camden, London, yesterday afternoon as part of the Camden Rocks All-Dayer. I was looking forward to seeing this band having seen them live twice last year. They always put on an amazing show. Florence Black are a no-nonsense rock band. They exude a passion for the music when they play. Their debut EP was featured in our “Favourite New Releases 2016” list and their recent single “Smoke” was our track of the day last week. They also made our “Best Live Bands 2016” list. We love Florence Black here at Rock and Roll and are eagerly awaiting their new EP, due to be released later this year.

Yesterday’s gig at Proud Camden was fantastic. As it was mid afternoon, a sizeable crowd had gathered at the small venue. Florence Black started their set with the awesome “Ghost” taken from their debut EP and as ever I found myself lost in the music. The band play with such energy and passion that you can’t help but get swept away and let the music take over. It’s the type of music that requires dancing and headbanging… at least, that’s my opinion 🙂

The band set the stage on fire with their thirty minute gig. They also played “Fiesta” and “Same Again” from their first EP as well as their excellent new single “Smoke”. They ended with “Johnny”, which saw lead singer/guitarist Tristan Thomas play the guitar while holding it behind his head.

This is the type of band that should be playing much larger venues and I’m sure it won’t be long before they are.

If you get a chance to see Florence Black live, don’t miss it!

Here are some of their upcoming dates:

24th February – The Patriots – Crumlin, Caerphilly

17th March – Redhouse Cymru – Merthyr Tydfil

5th May – The Patriots 20th Anniversary – Fear at Avon Valley

They’ll also be playing the Steelhouse Festival on the 28th of July, and Hard Rock Hell in November.
