The official stage times have now been released for next week’s Camden Rocks Festival. There’ll be around 200 bands playing at the festival in various venues in Camden.
Here are my picks of the best to watch at the festival. Unfortunately, there are a couple of clashes with some of the bands playing at the same time. I may have to invent a time machine before next Saturday!
Dirty Thrills are a hard rock/blues band from London. Their debut album, and EPs are fantastic (check them out on iTunes or listen on Spotify), and they always put on a brilliant live show (you can see one of my reviews here: https://realrockandroll.wordpress.com/2016/04/10/gig-review-dirty-thrills-upstairs-at-the-garage-london-11th-november-2015/.) They are a talented band of musicians, and the singer, Louis James, has one of the best voices in rock. They’ve been featured in Classic Rock and The Blues Magazine, and have toured Europe with the band “Europe”. They are a must-see band. Dirty Thrills will be playing at *3 p.m. in The Black Heart.
Buck & Evans
Another of my favourites, this band play blues music that also has rock and soul influences. I saw them at the Barfly recently. See my review here: https://realrockandroll.wordpress.com/2016/05/14/gig-review-buck-and-evanschasing-cadence-the-barfly-london-13-05-16/.
This is where I need my time machine, because they are playing at the same time as Dirty Thrills! *3 p.m. Buck & Evans will be at The Crowndale.
Florence Black released an awesome EP earlier this year and if their live shows are anything like their music, it will be amazing.
You can check out their music on Soundcloud. Buy on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/florence-black-ep/id1093999318
The band will be at The Monarch at *5 p.m.
Another band I’m looking forward to seeing is As Lions. The singer is the son of Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden). As a lifelong Iron Maiden fan this initially intrigued me and made me check out the band. I like what I’ve heard so far from As Lions. They’ll be at The Underworld at *1 p.m.
If you read my gig review for Buck & Evans, above, you will have seen that Chasing Cadence were supporting them that night. I really enjoyed their performance at The Barfly. They are a great live band. They will be at Camden Rocks Festival at *1 p.m. at Proud. I will need my time machine again as it clashes with As Lions!
Darcia Helle reviewed the new album “Divides”, recently. Check that out here: https://realrockandroll.wordpress.com/2016/05/09/divides-new-album-by-the-virginmarys-is-brilliant/
I’ve been told that they are a great live band too. They will be at upstairs at The Barfly at *7 p.m.
I featured this band’s EPs on the blog in February. They’ve just released their debut EP “Nova Initium”.
