Gig Review: Doris Brendel and The Room – The Borderline – London – 10th February 2016

Doris Brendel & Lee Dunham’s album, Upside Down World was one of my favourite albums of 2015, and I’ve been following Doris Brendel’s music online for a few years now, so I was looking forward to catching a live performance. Wednesday night’s show at The Borderline was amazing.

Before Doris Brendel’s show, there was a half-hour set by the headliners The Room

I’d never heard any of The Room’s music before, but I enjoyed their show. They play melodic rock and have quite a classic style. Their lyrics are great, and as I was watching them I was thinking that they have the sort of music that many people could relate to, the type of songs that feel honest and heartfelt. Their latest album is “Beyond The Gates Of Bedlam”. Find out more on their website:

Doris Brendel, Lee Dunham, and the band took to the stage after that. It was an awesome show. Doris Brendel is one of the best female rock singers I’ve heard, and her voice sounds even better live than on the album. They played quite a few of the songs from the latest album, including “The Devil Closed the Door On Me”, “A Little Act of Defiance”, “Adored”, and “Slap Me and You Die”. They also played some older songs including “Latest Fantasy”, and “Get A Life”.

One thing I have always admired about this band is the creativity that is almost spilling from them, not only in the wonderfully original and eclectic music they produce, but even their attire has a theatrical flair. They know how to put on a show and entertain a crowd, and they had the audience entranced throughout.

This is a band not to be missed. If you get a chance you should try to catch a show.
